Lab brief

Objective

Model a student as a struct, store several records in an array of structures, and search through them.

Theory & concepts

A struct bundles heterogeneous data - here a roll number (int), a name (char array), and marks (float) - into one record. An array of such structs is a small database: each index is a student, and each member holds one field.

Rendering diagram…

Array of student structures

typedef struct {
    int roll;
    char name[30];
    float marks;
} Student;

Student list[3] = {
    {1, "Rita", 88.5},
    {2, "Sita", 91.0},
    {3, "Ram",  74.25}
};

list[i].marks in one expression

list[i] selects the i-th student record, then .marks selects that student's marks. Whole records can be compared, copied, or swapped as single values, which makes searching and sorting straightforward.

Prerequisites

Lesson: Defining structures
Lesson: Arrays of structures
Lesson: Accessing structure members

Instructions

1Define a Student struct with roll, name, and marks members.
2Declare an array of 3 Student records and initialize them.
3Print all records with a loop: roll, name, and marks per row.
4Compute and print the average marks across the array.
5Find and print the student with the highest marks.

Tasks

Print all records
Output one formatted line per student with all three fields.
Compute the average
Sum the marks member across the array and print the average to 2 decimals.
Find the topper
Identify the student with the highest marks and print their name.
Search by roll number
Ask the user for a roll number and print that student's full record, or a not-found message.

Self-check

All three records print with roll, name, and marks.
The average is computed correctly with float division.
The topper search returns the right student.
The roll-number search handles missing records gracefully.
